Climate: Northern Alberta has much less frost-free days than the south, which is almost a desert without rain in summer. The western Alberta is protected by the rocky mountains, too, in winter, hot dry winds from the west and called Chinook bring periods of warm in rather cold winters. The eastern Alberta is flat, dry prairie, where it can be very cold (-30 ° C in winter) or hot (35 ° C in summer). The central and southern Alberta are the locations of Canada's most susceptible to tornadoes because of heat and violent storms are common in summer.
