Economy: The economy is based on fishing but also mineral resources. Mainly Labrador has the world's largest iron mines. Mineral resources are very diverse, there are mines of gold, silver, asbestos, fluorine, tungsten, nickel, copper, lead, zinc and coal and gypsum, limestone and cobalt. More oil was discovered offshore near St. John's.
